West Palm Beach, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team saw its early season record dip to 0-4 with a pair of losses on the final day of the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday. UB lost in four sets to Lee (Tenn.) University, 22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, and was swept by the host and number 19 ranked host Sailfish, 17-25, 15-25, 19-25.
Versus Lee, junior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) led the team with 11 kills, and she added eight digs.
Senior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) chipped in seven kills and seven digs.
Sophomore setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led UB with 25 assists, and on defense, senior Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) had a match-high 25 digs, and freshman Claire Anderson (Oak Harbor, Washington), also reach double-digit digs with 11.
Against Palm Beach Atlantic, Anderson led Bridgeport with 11 kills, and Santos added seven. Rich had 22 assists and Guinci finished with a match-high 18 digs.
Up next, the Purple Knights will travel to Springfield, Massachusetts for a Tuesday night tilt at American International College. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
