NEWARK, Del. – Traveling to face the top team currently in the CACC standings, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-6 loss at Wilmington on Saturday. The conference defeat shifts the Purple Knights' record to 6-5 this season, including 3-3 in CACC play.
UB showed fight in the opening half, trailing just 8-5 at the break after goals from Stephen Trama, Matthew Levantini and Luciano Canino, who each finished with two goals on the day.
The Purple Knights closed the gap to three late in the second quarter, but were unable to carry that momentum into the second half.
Wilmington seized control coming out of halftime and never looked back, using a 9-1 run over the final two quarters to put the game out of reach.
Noah Beard paced the Purple Knights' offense with two assists, while Luca Runyan contributed a team-high six ground balls.
In goal, Matthew Hughes turned in a strong effort despite the result, making 14 saves—his third-highest total of the season.
