Fortune and Azat Picked as UB's Purple Knights of the Week (Oct. 13-19)

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After piling up several individual victories in competition last week, senior Julia Fortune of the University of Bridgeport's women's cross country team and freshman Sultanbek Azat of the men's swimming and diving squad have been selected as UB's Purple Knights of the Week, for the week ending Oct. 19.

Fortune, who was named the CACC's Runner of the Week on Monday, claimed the individual title at Mount Saint Mary College's Fall Pumpkin Run on Sunday. The Rhode Island native topped a field of 29 runners, earning first place in the 5K. She clocked a collegiate-best time of 21:42.9.

Azat, who was named the NE10's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, was a standout for the Purple Knights in their dual meet victory over Felician last Friday. The Kazakhstan native captured individual wins in the 800-free (8:30.61) and 400-free (4:03.30) while also contributing to Bridgeport's triumph in the 200-free relay (1:39.29).
