Azat of Men's Swimming and Diving Earns NE10 Rookie of the Week Award
Freshman won a trio of events during UB's dual meet victory over Felician last Friday.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following a trio of standout performances during a win over Felician last week, freshman Sultanbek Azat of the University of Bridgeport's men's swimming and diving team was selected as the Northeast-10 Conference's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. He joins classmate Christian Toussi who earned the same honor from the NE10 last week.
Azat shined for the Purple Knights in their second straight NE10 dual meet victory last Friday at the Baum Family Aquatic Center. The native of Kazakhstan claimed individual titles in both the 800- (8:30.61) and 400-free (4:03.30) while also playing a key role on Bridgeport's winning 200-free relay squad, which clocked a time of 1:39.29. Azat is now No. 1 in the NE10 in in the 200-, 500- and 1,000-free this season.
Azat and rest of UB's men's swimming and diving team will return to action on Friday with a road dual meet at Assumption (3 p.m.).
