Purple Knights End 2015 Vulcan Volleyball Invitational With Five-Set Win Over Host Cal. U of Pa.

California, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team closed out its venture to Western Pennsylvania and the 2015 Vulcan Invitational with a heart-stopping, five-set win over the host California U of Pa. Vulcans, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 24-26, 16-14.  Earlier in the day, the Purple Knights dropped a straight sets decision to Fairmont Sate of West Virginia, 14-25, 21-25, 23-25.  Bridgeport is now 3-5 on the season.

In the win over the host Vulcans, three Purple Knights reached double digits in kills, as junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) and senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil), each had 18, and junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) amassed 13 kills.  Krstonosic, who had a total of 68 kills in the four matches over the weekend earning All-Tournament honors, recorded a double-double adding 20 digs.

Junior Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) led all players in the match with 29 digs.  Freshman Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 47 assists in the win.

In the loss to Fairmont State, junior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led UB with 11 kills, and Ellie Rich had 21 assists.  Rich averaged 9.31 assists per set in the four matches over the weekend.

Up next, the UB volleyball team will travel up I-95 to face the University of New Haven in a rematch of the 2014 NCAA Division II East Regional Final on Wednesday night in West Haven Conn.  First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
