UB Volleyball Cruises Past UDC, 3-0

Washington, D.C.-Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) registered 12 kills and Fernanda Costa (Sr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and freshman Larissa Oliveira (Fr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil) each chipped in 10 kills as the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) East Coast Conference road win over conference newcomer the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds on Wednesday night in our nation's capital.  With the win, UB is now 15-4 overall and 8-2 in the ECC.  UDC is now 11-19 overall and 2-9 in conference play.

Costa notched a double-double as she contributed 10 digs.  Oliveira added three solo blocks for the winners.

Junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, BC, Canada) registered a match-high 11 digs, and UB senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) distributed 40 assists on the evening for the winners.

The Purple Knights continue a busy week of volleyball on Saturday afternoon at home when they host the ECC-leading Dowling College Golden Lions at 2:00 p.m.  Saturday is also Senior Day.  UB and UDC will meet again on Sunday in Connecticut, as the two teams will play in Hubbell Gym at 2:00 p.m. in the 2011 regular home finale for Bridgeport.
