BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – On the first day of the double-elimination portion of the CACC's Championship Tournament, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (33-14) was eliminated on Thursday with a pair of losses at Seaside Park. The top-seeded Purple Knights dropped a 2-0 contest to Jefferson (No. 4 seed) before falling 3-0 to Goldey-Beacom (No. 3 seed).
GAME ONE – Jefferson 2, Bridgeport 0
The Purple Knights were only able to muster two hits in the opening game of the day. They had their chances though with five walks earned which ultimately ended with UB leaving seven runners on base.
Bridgeport's offense was led by McKenzie Morgan and Emily Chase knocking singles while Samantha Ledger reached base twice with a pair of walks.
Despite the loss, Kaite Burawski pitched extremely well in her 21st complete game of the season. She struck out 12 Jefferson batters while allowing just one earned run on four hits.
The defeat moves Burawski's record to 18-5 this season with an ERA of 1.66 across 151.2 total innings. She also raised her conference-leading strikeout total to 183 this spring.
GAME TWO – Goldey-Beacom 3, Bridgeport 0
The Purple Knights upped their hit total to six in the second game but still were unable to get on the board. UB left another 10 runners on base.
Sydnee Perreault led the UB attack with a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the dish. She began things with a pair of singles before knocking a double in the fifth.
Madison D'Amato, Mya Jones and Morgan also added hits in the elimination contest.
Samantha Ledger pitched well out of the bullpen for UB with a pair of scoreless frames. She allowed just one hit.
