Softball Enters NFCA National Coaches Poll at No. 25
Purple Knights, now 33-12 overall, have won 22 of their last 27 games.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – As they continue to prepare for the CACC's Championship Weekend, which is set to begin on Thursday morning, the University of Bridgeport's softball team saw themselves enter the NFCA's Top 25 Coaches Poll on Tuesday with a No. 25 ranking. UB is one of just two schools from the East Region (Pace) listed in the national poll.
The Purple Knights, who currently possess a 33-12 overall record, have put together a sensational stretch of games to earn their national recognition. The CACC regular-season champions have won 22 of their last 27 contests, including a record of 14-3 in the month of April. Bridgeport finished 19-3 in the CACC this season, defeating its conference foes by an average of 6.1 runs per game.
Dawn Stearns, the CACC's 2025 Coach of the Year, has pulled all the right strings for a UB squad that is the No. 1 seed in the upcoming double-elimination portion of the conference tournament.
Stearns has been aided by the sensational efforts of five CACC All-Conference performers that were announced earlier this week. Graduate Student Kaite Burawski was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year while Mya Jones, Madison D'Amato, Angela Oros and Sydnee Perreault were all recognized for standout campaigns.
An exceptional balance between offense and pitching has been a major factor in Bridgeport's success this spring. The Purple Knights lead the CACC in runs per game, slugging percentage and on-base percentage in addition to ranking No. 1 in team ERA, strikeouts and batting average against.
UB now turns its attention to a matchup with fourth-seeded Jefferson on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the first game of the double-elimination CACC Tournament. Bridgeport is set to host the festivities at Seaside Park from May 1-3.
The 2025 NFCA/Go Rout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee. The committee consists of 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA's eight regions. Records reflect games played through April 27.
