Track and Field Teams Conclude Action at Bucknell Challenge and Multis
Numerous season-bests and Vandelli's top time in the east region highlight Day Two.
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Highlighted by several season-best marks and a top time currently in the east region, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams concluded the two-day Bucknell Bison Challenge and Multis on Saturday.
Men's Highlights
The Purple Knights turned in seven top-30 performances on Day Two, highlighted by a pair of podium finishes on the track.
Freshman Kamal Abdul-Aziz led the way in the 60m, placing third with a personal-best time of 6.98, while Edoardo Vandelli also secured third place in the 800m after crossing in 1:56.93.
Vandelli's mark currently stands as the fastest time in the East Region this season.
Alex Sanchez added a top-10 effort for the Purple Knights in the 500m, finishing ninth in 1:11.87, and Toby Middleton followed with a 17th-place showing in the mile at 4:34.28.
Damian Coles rounded out the UB performances on the track with a 29th-place finish in the 400m, clocking 55.04.
In the field events, Darreyle Simpson placed 10th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80 meters, while Jeremy Choi paced Bridgeport in the weight throw with a 24th-place finish and a mark of 11.74 meters.
Women's Highlights
The Purple Knights recorded six top-30 performances on Saturday, led by strong showings across both the track and field events.
Kara Sampath paced the Purple Knights in the 400m with a 26th-place finish in 1:07.60, while Suweba Jawula followed closely behind in 28th with a time of 1:08.96.
In the distance events, Marcela Bañuelos placed 24th in the mile after clocking 6:06.55, and Julia Fortune added another top-30 result in the 3000m with a season-best time of 11:41.94.
Monsio Davies delivered a pair of solid efforts in the field, finishing 21st in the long jump with a mark of 4.57 meters.
Davies also impressed in her first collegiate competition in the triple jump, placing 12th overall with a personal-best leap of 10.41 meters.
