BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Catapulted by a pair of second-half goals, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team (7-4-7) earned a thrilling 2-1 win over Dominican in the CACC Quarterfinals on Sunday at Knights Field. The victory keeps the Purple Knights' season alive as they now advance to the conference semifinals against third-seeded Wilmington on Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing 1-0 after a Dominican goal in the seventh minute, UB showed remarkable resilience with its season on the line.
The Purple Knights finally found their equalizer in the 68th minute through flawless execution on a corner kick. Joao Miranda's cross was back-heeled by Lucas Mah at the near post to Samuel Dundas, who one-timed it into the back of the net. Dundas is now tied for second on UB in goals this season with four.
UB struck again in the 85th minute—once more off a corner—to take the lead for good. Mah's flick at the near post was blocked by a Chargers defender, but the rebound fell to Loik Poder, who buried it top shelf for the 2-1 advantage.
With the lead secured, the Purple Knights turned to their defense to close it out. Goalkeeper Viktor Mašek made a clutch save on a close-range shot in the 87th minute, and Dundas delivered a sliding tackle in the box to stop a breakaway with under three minutes remaining.
Bridgeport controlled much of the match statistically, holding a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
