RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Entering the afternoon atop the CACC standings, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team registered a 2-2 draw at Felician University on Thursday. The result keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten in the conference this season (3-0-3) while moving their overall record to 3-4-5.
Bridgeport showed great resolve against the Golden Falcons, answering deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 to earn a hard-fought road point.
Loik Poder was the first to tie the game for the Purple Knights, finding the back of the net in the 43rd minute. The Frenchman's first UB goal was assisted by classmate Enzo Beatrix, who is now tied for the team lead with four helpers this season.
Bridgeport's opening tally featured Poder back-healing a pass to Beatrix at midfield before outracing Felician defenders down field and slotting Beatrix's delivery past a sprinting-out goalkeeper at the top of the box.
After the home squad took another one-goal lead in the 48th minute, UB had to respond once again. This time it was senior captain Lucas Mah who found the perfect time (the 76th minute) to record his first goal of the season.
Mah made a terrific run from the right wing to the middle of the box before one-timing a superbly placed cross from Kaanturk Akgul into the back of the net. Akgul joins Beatrix with a team-best four assists this season.
On the other side of the ball, sophomore goalkeeper Viktor Mašek logged seven saves in his 10th start of the season. He has now posted at least seven stops on four occasions and is ranked fourth in the CACC in save percentage.
