BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing their first conference game of the 2025 season, the University of Bridgeport's men's soccer team tallied a commanding 8-1 win over Georgian Court on Saturday at Knights Field. The triumph improves the Purple Knights to 1-3-1 this fall, including a 1-0 record in the CACC.
The Purple and White wasted no time grabbing control in their conference opener, striking three times in the opening half. UB then followed with five more tallies across the final 34:11 of regulation.
Senior Kaanturk Akgul started the onslaught in the 6th minute off a feed from Loik Poder while Joao Miranda doubled the advantage just four minutes later. Ali El Mardenly, meanwhile, buried a Miranda setup in the 31st minute for a 3–0 halftime cushion.
Bridgeport kept its foot on the gas after the break. Samuel Dundas pushed the lead to 4–0 early in the second half before Georgian Court pulled one back in the 56th minute.
UB answered GCU's tally with four more goals in the final 25 minutes, highlighted by a brace from Jakob Reinhard and additional tallies from Enzo Beatrix and Ata Akgun.
Miranda finished the victory with a goal and two assists to raise his career totals to 10 tallies and 13 helpers. Akgul, meanwhile, continues to lead the Purple Knights in points (8) this season on three goals and two assists.
