Men's Lacrosse Historic Campaign Ends in CACC Semifinals at Chestnut Hill, 12-7
Purple Knights end year with 9-7 record, signifying most wins in program history.
LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - Playing in the CACC Semifinals for the first time in program history, the University of Bridgeport men's lacrosse team (No. 3 seed) saw its season come to a close with a 12-7 setback at second-seeded Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, the Purple Knights conclude a historic campaign with a 9-7 overall record, marking the highest win total in program history.
The Purple Knights found themselves in an early hole, trailing 7-3 late in the first half, but showed resilience in battling back. Behind a strong third quarter, UB trimmed the deficit to just 9-7 heading into the final 15 minutes after outscoring the Griffins 3-2 in the frame.
The Purple Knights were unable to complete the comeback though as Chestnut Hill closed the contest on a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Matthew Levantini paced the Purple Knights' attack with a season-high four goals, accounting for more than half of UB's scoring output.
Ashton Lankowski added a pair of goals and an assist for three points, while James Napoli also found the back of the net. Stephen Trama orchestrated the offense with a team-high three assists.
Napoli ends his illustrious career with program records in all-time goals (127) and points (201), doing so in 58 career games played.
At the face-off X, Sal D'Amico delivered a strong performance, winning 9-of-13 attempts while nabbing a team-best six ground balls.
Connor Cullen and Luca Runyan were also key in the possession battle, each collecting five ground balls as UB finished with a 33-27 edge in that category.
Cullen caps his incredible UB career with 648 face-off wins, the most in CACC history, and 357 ground balls which ranks second in league history.
