SPARKILL, N.Y. – Despite trailing by two goals at halftime, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team tallied a 13-10 win at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. UB's fourth non-conference triumph of the season pushes their overall record to 7-5.
Trailing 7-5 at the break and 8-6 early in the third, the Purple Knights seized control with a decisive 7-1 run that flipped the game into a 12-8 advantage with 11:41 remaining, a lead they would not relinquish.
James Napoli led the charge with a superb performance, scoring five goals and adding an assist for a game-high six points, pushing his season total to 41 goals through 12 games.
Darien Fray provided strong secondary scoring with a hat trick, while Luciano Canino added two goals as Bridgeport's offense found its rhythm in the second half.
The Purple Knights controlled possession throughout, thanks in large part to Connor Cullen, who won 13 of his 19 face-offs and scooped up a team-best eight ground balls.
Defensively, Luca Runyan and Liam O'Neill anchored the effort with three caused turnovers apiece.
As a team, Bridgeport dominated the stat sheet, holding a commanding 52-33 edge in ground balls and outshooting St. Thomas Aquinas 53-29, including a 31-20 advantage in shots on goal.
