Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Holy Family on Senior Night, 17-11
Purple Knights, now 6-7 overall and 3-4 in the CACC, move closer to playoff berth.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing at home for the final time this season, the University of Bridgeport's men's lacrosse team earned a 17-11 win over Holy Family on Tuesday. The Senior Day victory puts the Purple Knights' record at 6-7 overall this season and 3-4 in the CACC.
Face-off dominance served as the main theme in UB's decisive victory against the Tigers. The Purple Knights went a remarkable 19-for-21 in face-offs over the first three quarters on Tuesday.
Bridgeport was able to use those face-off victories to build up a 12-6 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Connor Cullen served as the main orchestrator, finishing 20-of-22 in face-off matchups with a season-high 16 ground balls.
Six different Purple Knights put together multi-goal efforts in the win, including James Goodrich who notched a season-high four tallies. He also picked up five ground balls.
Ashton Lankowski finished second on the team with a hat trick while four different Purple Knights (Hunter Lizza, Dewey Schoenfelder, Stephen Trama, Kevin Dromm) notched two goals apiece.
Trama also dished out three assists to finish with a team-high five points. He currently ranks second on the team in total points (32) this season and tied for first in assists (13).
Junior Ryan Thomas once again piloted the UB defense with a team-high four caused turnovers. He also nabbed a trio of ground balls.
Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Dmochowski picked up his sixth win in net. He finished with 11 saves while allowing just eight goals.
As a team, UB piled up a season-high 54 ground balls while their 18 caused turnovers was just one shy of matching a season best.
Continuing their recent offensive success, the Purple Knights scored a season-high 17 goals for the second straight game and third time over their last four.
