Volleyball Guts Out Five-Set Win at Georgian Court
Purple Knights move to 2-2 in the CACC this season.
LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The University of Bridgeport's volleyball team rallied to earn a thrilling five-set road victory over Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon, winning by set scores of 19-25, 25-19, 25-23, 14-25, 15-13. The result moves the Purple Knights' record in the CACC to 2-2 this season.
Junior Hailey Jessen once again powered UB's attack with a match-high 23 kills while also adding 11 digs and four blocks. Jessen, who now has five double-doubles this year, is currently ranked fourth in the CACC in kills per set (3.20).
Freshman Cecilia Kowalski was also a force at the net with 10 kills and five total blocks (t-season-high), while classmate Madison Mohan chipped in 12 put-aways of her own.
Defensively, junior Elaine DeLallo anchored the back row with a team-high 22 digs. She has now totaled 45 digs across UB's last two matches.
Sophomore Ella Bowman ranked second in the digs department courtesy of a season-best 14 of them.
Senior Lucia Tomiello, meanwhile, provided a spark with six kills on a blistering .857 hitting percentage. She also added six digs and three blocks.
UB's two setters, Camdyn Cieszkiewicz and Ava Casales, did a great job maneuvering the offense, combining almost equally for 47 assists. They also notched five digs apiece.
UB closed strong in the decisive fifth set, hitting .370 as a team, highlighted by Jessen's seven kills and key points from Kowalski to secure the win.
