KINGSVILLE, Texas – On Day Two of a weekend trip to Texas, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 matches to Saint Martin's University and Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.
Match 1 – Saint Martin's 3, Bridgeport 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21)
Freshman Madison Mohan led the Purple Knights' attack with eight kills, while classmate Nevaeh Byrge added seven kills, nine digs, and two service aces to help the team on both sides of the ball.
Senior Lucia Tomiello chipped in five kills and a service ace, and Ava Casales directed the offense with 25 assists (season high) while also contributing three kills.
Defensively, libero Elaine DeLallo anchored the back row with a match-high 11 digs, and Analdys Abreu recorded three block assists at the net. DeLallo also contributed a team-best three aces.
Match 2 – Texas A&M-Kingsville 3, Bridgeport 0 (25-9, 25-22, 27-25)
Hailey Jessen led UB's offense in the finale with a team-high seven kills to go along with a team-best three aces. She also notched a solo block and a block assist.
Mohan followed up her strong opener with six more kills against the hosts, while Tomiello was efficient once again with five kills on 11 swings (.364).
Freshman Cecilia Kowalski chipped in five putaways of her own, and Casales distributed 21 more assists to go along with two service aces and seven digs.
Defensively, it was DeLallo again with a team-high 11 digs while UB's front line combined for six block assists and a solo block.
UP NEXT
The Purple Knights will make their home debut on Wednesday night (Sept. 17) against Felician. The 7 p.m. start will serve as UB's first conference match of the season.
