Volleyball Drops Two Matches on Day One of Texas Trip

KINGSVILLE, Texas – On the first day of a weekend trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team (0-4) endured a pair of 3-0 defeats to Southern Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma on Friday.
MATCH 1 – Southern Arkansas 3, Bridgeport 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-15)
Hailey Jessen powered the Purple Knights' offense in the opener, finishing with a team-high 17 kills (season high) while also adding eight digs.
Senior Lucia Tomiello was also effective at the net with six kills on 15 swings (.400 hitting percentage). She notched a service ace and a pair of digs as well.
More contributors for UB included freshman Madison Mohan chipping in four kills, while Ava Casales handed out 12 assists and picked up seven digs.
Freshman Camdyn Cieszkiewicz also passed well for Bridgeport as she finished with a team-best 13 helpers to go along with five digs and an ace.
Elaine DeLallo aided UB's defense with a team-high 10 digs as she continues to lead the Purple Knights in that department (3.07/set).
MATCH 2 – Southeastern Oklahoma 3, Bridgeport 0 (25-5, 25-15, 25-8)
Jessen once again led the Bridgeport attack in the finale. The Colorado native finished with nine kills while also adding four digs. Jessen currently ranks fourth in the CACC in kills per set (3.21) this season.
Mohan, meanwhile, chipped in three kills and a block assist, and Emma Newman, Kamaria Magee and Layla Wood each recorded a kill.
Casales paced the offense with 10 assists and contributed eight digs, while DeLallo added seven digs of her own. At the service line, Kenyce Johnson knocked two aces to highlight UB's serving effort.
