Bridgeport Duo Earns Weekly ECC Volleyball Honors
Senior Emily Burford And Freshman Jaden Drollinger Recognized For Their Outstanding Play Last Week
West Babylon, N.Y.- Two members University of Bridgeport women's volleyball program received weekly East Coast Conference awards on Monday, as senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) and freshmen Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) have been recognized by the ECC for their outstanding play in matches that took place from November 8 through 14, 2021. Burford earned this week's conference Player of the Week honors, and Drollinger has now been named as the ECC Setter of the Week four times this season.
Burford wrapped up her Senior Night match in fine style on Friday, slamming the final kill in Bridgeport's five-set, comeback win from being down two sets to none versus Mercy College. Emily led the Purple Knights in kills against the Mavericks with 17 and finished with a double-double adding 14 kills in the team's only match last week. She also had one service ace and a team-leading seven block assists on the evening. On the season, Burford is second on the team in kills per set averaging 2.7.
As she has done all season, Drollinger directed the UB offense in fine fashion with 58 assists (11.6/set) in a five-set comeback win over Mercy on Friday night in the team's only action last week. She also had seven digs and five kills for the winners last Friday. On the season, Jaden is averaging 10.3 assists per set and is the team leader in service aces with 48.
The UB volleyball team heads to Amherst. New York this weekend for the 2021 ECC Volleyball Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Purple Knights, the number two seed in the tourney, will face number three seed Mercy College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday following the first semifinal between top-seed and host Daemen College and number four seed Molloy College. Friday's winners will meet on Saturday for the conference title and an automatic bid to this year's NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament.
