Two Purple Knights Earn Weekly ECC Volleyball Awards
Freshmen Paola Hernandez And Jaden Drollinger Recognized For Their Outstanding Play
West Babylon, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport women's volleyball standouts have been recognized by the East Coast Conference with weekly honors for their outstanding play in matches that took place from October 11 through 17, 2021.
Freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) earned this week's ECC Player of the Week nod, and classmate Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) has been selected as the ECC Rookie of the Week. This is the first time this season that Hernandez has been named Player of the Week after three Rookie of the Week selections, and this is also the first time that Drollinger has earned Rookie of the Week accolades after being picked as conference Setter of the Week once earlier this year.
Hernandez helped UB go 2-1 on the week by averaging 3.80 kills and 1.70 digs per set. She reached double figures in kills in both Bridgeport wins notching 13 at Mercy and 18 in a sweep of Franklin Pierce. Paola also chipped in two service aces and an assist on the week. So far in 2021, she leads UB in kills per set at 3.4.
Drollinger continued her stellar all-around play during the 2021 season as she averaged 9.2 assists and 2.8 digs per set on the week. She also chipped in seven kills, three service aces, and one block on the week. Her best match came in a four-set ECC win at Mercy on October 13 when she notched her ninth double-double of the year with 43 assists and 14 digs. So far in 2021, Jaden is averaging 10.2 assists per set and leads the Purple Knights with 33 service aces.
This week, Paola, Jaden and the rest of the University of Bridgeport volleyball team will be in action at Pace University on Tuesday night and host Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday at 12 noon in Hubbell Gym.
