Freshman Paola Hernandez Named ECC Women's Volleyball Rookie Of The Week
Helped The Purple Knights Open The 2021 Season With Tri-Match Split On Saturday
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport freshman Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) has been named the first East Coast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the 2021 season for her outstanding play in matches that took place from September 2 through 5.
Hernandez was simply outstanding in her first two matches in a UB uniform notching double-doubles versus Assumption and Holy Family plus hitting an impressive .333 percent (33 k-10e-69 ta). In a four-set win over the Greyhounds, she had 17 kills and 10 digs, and then in a four-set loss to Holy Family, she led UB with 16 kills and 16 digs. Paola also added four service aces, two assists, and a block on the weekend.
Teammate and classmate Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) also was recognized this week with a spot on the ECC Honor Roll, as were Alexandra Toth (Jr., Sandy Hook, Conn.) from the women's cross team plus Chigozie Okorie (Jr.. Houston, Tex.) from men's soccer.
