Bridgeport Volleyball Earns Ninth Straight ECC Academic Team of Excellence Award
Purple Knights Post Highest Overall Women's Team G.P.A. At 3.74
West Babylon, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference has announced the 2020-21 recipients of its annual Academic Team of Excellence Awards.
The ECC Academic Team of Excellence Awards are presented to the team with the highest cumulative grade point average in their respective sport. Molloy College led the way with seven teams being honored. In their first official year in the conference, College of Staten Island was next with three teams claiming the award. Mercy College and St. Thomas Aquinas College each had two honorees, while the University of Bridgeport, Adelphi University, D'Youville College, Roberts Wesleyan College each had one winner.
Seven teams repeated as winners of the award. Bridgeport's women's volleyball continued their conference-best streak, winning the honor for the ninth straight season. The next longest streak belongs to Molloy's women's outdoor track & field team, who won for the fourth straight year. Molloy baseball, women's soccer, and women's indoor track & field, Mercy men's soccer, and Adelphi women's bowling all won the honor a second straight time.
Over 86 percent of the conference's teams (126 total) achieved a 3.0 team GPA or higher. Bridgeport's women's volleyball team put together the highest overall team GPA in the conference at 3.74. St. Thomas Aquinas' men's tennis team had the highest GPA on the men's side with a 3.56.
