Volleyball Tops Roberts Wesleyan To Open 2017 ECC Schedule

Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2017 East Coast Conference schedule with a straight sets, 25-18, 25-21, 21-19, road win over the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. The Purple Knights, winners of three straight matches, are now 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the ECC, and RWC is now 0-15 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Sophomore Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) posted her second straight double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs to help lead her team to the win.

Freshman Hunter Barker (Parker, Colo.) also reached double-digit kills on Friday night with 11.

Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) fell just shy of a double-double with 10 dis and eight kills for the winners.

Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Bridgeport offense with 39 assists and chipped in five kills.

Freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led all players on the night with 13 digs in the victory.

Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will conclude its trip to Western New York with a 1:00 p.m. match at Daemen College on Saturday afternoon.
