Volleyball Cruises By Saint Anselm

Bridgeport, Conn.-Sophomore Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) and classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) smashed 13 and 11 kills respectively to help the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team cruise to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-7) win over the visiting Saint Anselm College Hawks on Saturday afternoon in the Purple Knights 2012 home opener.  UB is now 4-1 overall.  Saint Anselm is now 3-2 on the season.

Shen hit an impressive .579 on the day with those 13 kills on 19 attacks with only two errors.  She also registered a double-double with 10 digs, added three service aces and four block assists.

Savic fell just shy of a double-double with eight digs.

Junior setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) had a fine match directing the Purple Knights' offense with 30 assists and five kills.

Sophomore Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was outstanding on defense for Bridgeport with seven total blocks (two solos and five block assists), plus she added seven digs.

Senior libero Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) was steady on the back row for the Purple Knights amassing a team-high 13 digs.

The UB women's volleyball team is back in action on Saturday, September 15 at Mass Lowell.  First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
