Bridgeport Volleyball Earns Fourth Straight NCAA Trip

Indianapolis, Ind.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team, under the direction of third-year head coach Leo Uzcategui, will open play in the 2011 NCAA Division II Championship East Regional hosted by the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conneticut, on Thursday, November 17, when the number three seed Purple Knights face the number six seed, NYIT Bears.  This year's marks the fourth consecutive NCAA appearance for UB. Last season, the Purple Knights defeated American International and New Haven before falling in the regional final to Dowling for the second straight season. In 2009, Bridgeport topped UMass Lowell and New Haven before falling to Dowling.   In 2008, Bridgeport, making the program's first-ever NCAA trip, defeated Bentley University in its regional opener before falling to Dowling College in the regional semifinals.

Bridgeport and NYIT, both members of the East Coast Conference, have already met three times this year with the Purple Knights winning twice, the last time on Friday evening in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament semifinals.

Joining UB and NYIT in the 2011 NCAA Division II Championship East Regional are: number one seed, University of New Haven, number two seed Dowling College, number four seed Adelphi University, number five seed Stonehill College, number seven seed, Caldwell College and number eight seed, Pace University

UB enters this year's NCAA Championship with an overall record of 18-7.  NYIT  is 19-8.  During the regular season,
