Volleyball's Biljana Savic Named ECC Rookie of the Year And First Team All-Conference
Tamara Leite and Fernanda Costa Named Second Team All-ECC
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport freshman outside hitter Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) has been named the 2011 East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in a vote of league coaches that was released on Friday prior to the start of the ECC Championship Tournament hosted by Dowling College. Savic also earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. A seven-time ECC Rookie of the Week selection during the regular season, Savic leads UB in total kills with 365 and is averaging a team-high 4.15 kills/set.
Also receiving 2011 All-East Coast Conference honors on Friday were Bridgeport seniors, setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) and outside hitter Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), who were named to the All-Conference Second Team.
The UB volleyball team opens play in the 2011 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament at Dowling College on Friday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. when the third-seeded Purple Knights face number two seed NYIT.
