Track and Field Closes Regular Season at Vassar's Spring Invite
Purple Knights now gear up for the 2026 CACC Championships next weekend (May 1-2) at Georgian Court.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Competing for the final time prior to the 2026 CACC Outdoor Championships, which are set for next weekend at Georgian Court, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams participated in Vassar College's Spring Invite on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Women's Highlights
Abety Kivagheni delivered a standout day in the field events, recording a lifetime-best mark of 9.98 meters in the triple jump to place fifth in her first-ever collegiate appearance in the event. She also added a 12th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.63 meters.
On the track, Marcela Bañuelos achieved a milestone performance in the 5K, breaking the 21-minute barrier for the first time in her career. She crossed the line in 20:59.48 to place 14th overall while also qualifying for next weekend's CACC Championship meet.
Faith Hershberger secured the team's top placement of the meet with a second-place showing in the pole vault, clearing 2.40 meters. She will look to defend her CACC title in the pole vault at next weekend's championship meet.
Men's Highlights
Freshman Connor Israel led the way with a first-place finish in the hammer throw, unleashing a lifetime-best mark of 35.43 meters—an improvement of more than three meters over his previous personal record.
Fellow rookie Lucas Reinhardt also delivered an impressive performance in the hammer, placing second with a toss of 34.07 meters to give UB a one-two finish in the event.
Israel went on to compete across multiple disciplines, adding a 20th-place showing in the discus (20.94m) and a 19th-place finish in the shot put (8.17m).
Reinhardt, meanwhile, served as UB's top finisher in the shot put with a 10th-place mark of 9.87 meters.
