Track and Field Teams See Action at West Point Tune Up
Purple Knights post numerous PRs and school records as they prepare for the NEICAAA Indoor Championship.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Competing in their final meet prior to the postseason, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's indoor track and field teams returned to action on Saturday at the West Point Tune Up in West Point, N.Y.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Kamal Abdul-Aziz was once again one of UB's top performers in his sixth collegiate meet. The Binghamton, N.Y. native broke UB's school record in the 60m with a time of 6.94 to finish in third place.
Incidentally, Abdul-Aziz also posted that time in the prelims. He currently owns the fifth-fastest mark in the east region.
The Purple Knights also finished 2-3 in the 1000m with Edoardo Vandelli placing second in a time of 2:37.07 and Toby Middleton finishing third in 2:40.29.
More UB highlights included PRs from Connor Israel, Tayshaun Bookal and Jackson Sanders.
Israel's new lifetime best came in the weight throw with a toss of 10.22. Bookal and Sanders posted their PRs in the 60m with respective times of 7.43 and 7.57.
Lucas Reinhardt served as UB's top finisher in the shot put with a 10th-place score of 11.55m while Jeremy Choi led the Purple Knights in the weight throw with an 11th-place finish (12.66m).
Darreyle Simpson notched Bridgeport's top mark in the high jump. He posted a third-place leap of 1.80m.
Simpson also placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.40.
Another freshman Sunil Peters added a top-10 mark in the 200m with a mark of 23.21.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Fiona Richards put together a terrific day in the throws department. The graduate student tied her own school record in the weight throw, finishing third with a toss of 16.44m.
Richards also placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 13.09m.
Julia Fortune and Emma Pastorelli joined in with new school records of their own on Saturday.
Fortune did so in the 3000m, running to a new PR time of 11:32.55 while Pastorelli tallied a new UB-best mark of 8.28 in the 60m.
Pastorelli notched a ninth-place performance (4.68m) in the long jump as well.
Marcela Bañuelos and Kara Sampath also put together strong performances for the Purple Knights. Sampath posted a season-best time of 1:05.66 in the 400m while Banuelos notched a seventh-place 3:34.05 in her first-ever 1000m.
Sampath also darted to a ninth-place mark in the 200m with a time of 27.92.
Stephanie Lickteig, meanwhile, put together ninth-place marks in both the mile (5:55.96) and the 800m (2:44.69).
Monsio Davies joined in with a top-10 mark in the triple jump, placing eighth with a score of 9.11m.

The Purple Knights will have a weekend off prior to competing in the NEICAAA Indoor Championship on March 6-7 in Boston, Mass.
