Track and Field Starts 2026 at Ramapo Indoor Opener
Purple Knights pile up eight top-10 finishes in their first meet of the spring semester.
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Opening their spring semester schedule, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams each turned in strong performances at the Ramapo Indoor Opener on Friday at The Armory in New York City. Full results from the meet can be found HERE.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Kamal Abdul-Aziz led the Purple Knights on the track by placing third in the 60m, clocking a personal-best 7.01 to highlight the sprint group.
Toby Middleton anchored the distance efforts by placing 14th in the 3000m after stopping the clock at 9:24.01.
In the field events, Darreyle Simpson cleared 1.78 meters to place 14th in the high jump.
Jeremy Choi delivered one of the top field performances of the meet, placing sixth in the weight throw with a personal-record toss of 13.37 meters.
Lucas Reinhardt helped pace the throws with an 11th-place finish in the shot put (10.89m).
Rounding out the day, the men's 4x400 relay of Abdul-Aziz, Sunil Peters, Vandelli and Damian Coles combined for a ninth-place finish in 3:30.30.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Graduate student Emma Pastorelli made a solid debut in a Purple Knights uniform, placing ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.96m.
She also competed twice more on the day, finishing 39th in the 200m (28.11) and earning a 12th-place tally in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50.
In the 400m, Suweba Jawula crossed the line in 1:06.79 to place 29th overall.
The distance group was highlighted by a pair of personal-best efforts in the mile, as Julia Fortune finished 21st in 5:49.70, while Marcela Bañuelos followed closely in 25th at 5:56.70.
Sophomore Stephanie Lickteig added another personal record in the 3000m, placing 20th with a time of 13:19.21.
In the throws, Fiona Richard delivered one of the top performances of the meet by placing third in both the shot put (12.15m) and the weight throw (13.68m).
The day concluded with the 4x400 relay of Fortune, Monsio Davies, Abety Kivagheni and Banuelos combining for a 10th-place finish in 4:43.64.

The Purple Knights will travel to nearby Southern Connecticut State next Saturday (Jan. 24) for the William Sullivan Invitational (10 a.m.).
