Women's Swimming and Diving Wins Two Titles on Night Three of NE10 Championships
Purple Knights close gap considerably but still remain in fifth place after 29 events.
WORCESTER, Mass. – Fueled by a pair of conference titles and five top-five finishes, the University of Bridgeport's women's swimming and diving squad climbed to within three points of fourth place at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday night. UB sits with a total of 372.5 through 29 events, sitting right behind Pace University (375.5) in fifth place.
Ceyda Genç led the way for the Purple Knights as she was a part of both of UB's first-ever NE10 gold medals. The Turkey native began with an individual championship in the 100-fly, racing to a top time of 56.80.
Genç was then a member of UB's 200-medley relay team that captured gold in a mark of 1:48.29. UB's time ended up just 0.04 seconds faster than Felician's second-place team.
Hazel Clark, Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez and Luca Olsen rounded out the Purple Knight 200-medley squad that earned UB's first-ever NE10 relay title.
Olsen led Bridgeport in the 200-free as well, earning a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:56.62. Emma Nolan added points in the event courtesy of a 14th-place time of 2:03.60.
The 100-back and 100-breast also produced great results for UB on Saturday night.
Genç added a bronze medal to her sensational evening in the 100-back with a mark of 58.05 while Clark placed sixth in 59.57.
Gómez Rodriguez piloted UB in the 100-breast with a fifth-place time of 1:08.63. Pierina Ferraresi followed in seventh with a mark of 1:08.76.
Anna Forlani and Patricia Torviso joined in with A Finals of their own. Forlani tied for sixth in the 100-fly (59.43) while Torviso touched eighth in the 400-IM (4:49.98).
