Azat and Forlani Earn NE10 Swimming Weekly Awards

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following marvelous performances in a tri-meet at Wesleyan University on Saturday, freshmen Sultanbek Azat and Anna Forlani were each honored with Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards on Tuesday. Azat was tabbed as the NE10's top Swimmer and Rookie while Forlani was named as the conference's Rookie of the Week.
Azat, who has now earned five NE10 weekly awards this season, dominated the 1000 free during UB's sweep of Wheaton and Wesleyan on Saturday. The Kazakhstan native won the event by more than 35 seconds en route to rattling off the fastest time (9:19.74) in the NE10 this season. He also won the 500-free on Saturday in a time of 4:40.55. Azat already owns the NE10's fastest mark in that event (4:25.78) which he registered at the ECAC Winter Championships.
Forlani was equally stellar on Saturday in what was her Purple Knight debut. The Italy native won both of her individual events, ripping off a 2:15.36 a to take home the 200-IM before posting a 2:14.48 to touch first in the 200-fly. Forlani's time in the 200-IM currently ranks as the eighth fastest in the NE10 this season while her 200-fly mark sits as the fourth quickest.
Azat, Forlani and the rest of UB's swimming and diving teams will return to action on Friday at home against Sacred Heart and Fairfield (3 p.m.).
