Swimming and Diving Dominant in Home Tri-Meet Sweep
Purple Knights defeat Roger Williams University and University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Competing at home for the third time this season, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept a tri-meet against Roger Williams University and University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday at the Baum Family Aquatic Center.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS (W vs. RWU, 215-60 | W vs. USJ, 226-43)
The Purple Knights continued their outstanding start to the season by winning every single event on Saturday to remain perfect at 5-0 in dual meets.
Juan David Urrea Vargas set the tone early with a season-high score of 241.05 to capture first place in the one-meter dive. From there, the Purple Knights took control in the pool, beginning with the 400-medley relay team of Christian Toussi, Jurica Dragun, Maximiliano Pedrozo Sevila, and Camilo Villalba Vera, which opened the meet with a victory in 3:51.19.
Sultanbek Azat led the distance crew with wins in both the 800- (8:20.57) and 400-free (4:00.74), while Villalba Vera sprinted to victories in the 200-free (1:56.86) and 100-free (53.58).
Toussi added individual titles in the 50-free (24.02) and 200-back (2:10.74) while Pedrozo Sevila snagged first places in both the 100-breast (1:04.95) and 100-fly (57.49).
Other Purple Knight winners included Brady Stangl (100-back, 1:00.56), Giancarlo Zamora (200-fly, 2:14.89), Dragun (200-breast, 2:22.48), and Ignacy Olownia (400-IM, 4:39.45).
Bridgeport closed the meet in style as the 400-free relay team of Toussi, Azat, Villalba Vera, and Pacome Sidelski secured another victory with a time of 3:29.31.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS (W vs. RWU, 157.5-109.5 | W vs. USJ, 171-85)
It was more dominance on the women's side as the Purple Knights totaled nine individual victories and a relay triumph. UB is now 3-2 in dual meets this season.
The Purple Knights opened the meet with an impressive win in the 400-medley relay, as Hazel Clark, Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez, Ceyda Genç, and Luca Olsen teamed up for a time of 4:36.26.
Patricia Torviso kept the momentum rolling with a victory in the 800-free (10:04.46) before Olsen doubled up with wins in both the 200-free (2:13.79) and 400-free (4:50.35).
Clark dominated the backstroke events, taking first in the 100-back (1:10.69) and 200-back (2:36.42), while Gómez Rodriguez swept the breaststroke races with times of 1:17.71 in the 100 and 2:50.88 in the 200.
Rounding out the Purple Knights' sweep, Genç shined in the butterfly events, capturing the 200-fly (2:34.96) and 100-fly (1:08.39).

The Purple Knights will have a few days off prior to taking on Sacred Heart, Saint Peter's and Merrimack in a quad meet on Nov. 22 (McCann Natatorium, Milford, CT).
