Women's Swimming and Diving Falls to Adelphi in Home Opener
Purple Knights earn seven individual victories and win the 200-free relay.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Competing at home for the first time since 2018, the newly reinstated University of Bridgeport women's swimming and diving team was narrowly defeated by Adelphi (141-134) in a dual meet on Friday night.
Freshman Ceyda Genç led the way for the Purple Knights with a stellar triple-win performance, sweeping the 50-free (28.31), 100-free (1:01.78), and 100-fly (1:06.91).
Another freshman Luca Olsen got the Purple Knights started with a win in the 800-free (9:55.65), while classmate Hazel Clark followed with a victory in the 100-back (1:08.64).
Fellow rookie Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez added another top finish in the 100-breast (1:18.11) while classmate Patricia Torviso joined in with a terrific showing in the 400-IM, taking first in 5:31.06.
Torviso also added second-place finishes in both the 200-free and 200-fly.
Bridgeport capped the meet on a high note, as Olsen, Ania Mrozik, Pierina Ferraresi, and Clark combined to win the 200-free relay in 1:55.26.

The Purple Knights will be back home next Friday (Oct. 17) to take on Felician at 5 p.m.
