Women's Swimming and Diving Places Third at Fairfield Invitational
Purple Knights finish ahead of Manhattan and Sacred Heart.
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Competing as a program for the first time since 2019, the University of Bridgeport's women's swimming and diving team registered a third-place effort at the Fairfield Invitational this past weekend. The Purple Knights' 206 total points finished ahead of Division I foes, Manhattan and Sacred Heart.

TOP PERFORMANCES
The Purple Knights turned in a balanced performance in their season-opener, highlighted by seven top-five finishes over the weekend.
UB opened strong in the 200-medley relay, as Hazel Clark, Cristal Margarita Gómez Rodriguez, Ceyda Genç, and Luca Olsen combined for third place in 2:05.00.
Gómez Rodriguez went on to deliver two more podium-worthy swims, taking third in the 100-breast (1:18.70) and adding a fifth-place result in the 200-breast (2:52.56).
Fellow freshman Luca Olsen scored valuable points as well with a pair of top-five finishes, clocking a fourth-place effort in the 400-free (9:59.62) and a fifth-place showing in the 200-free (2:15.69).
Another rookie Patricia Torviso put together a fourth-place performance of her own, posting a time of 9:59.62 in the 800-free while Clark earned fifth in the 100-back (1:10.42). Genç capped the top efforts for UB with a strong fourth-place finish in the 100-fly (1:07.34).
It was diving that started the festivities at the Fairfield Invitational on Friday night. Sophomore Amber Militrano, who is also on UB's women's lacrosse team, made her debut in the one-meter.

The Purple Knights will enjoy their first home meet of the season on Friday (Oct. 10) against Adelphi at 4 p.m.
