LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Playing in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament, the fifth-seeded University of Bridgeport women's soccer team lost in overtime at fourth-seeded Georgian Court on Monday by a score of 2-1. The Purple Knights end their season with an overall record of 7-9-3.
After missing the previous nine contests due to injury, Angelina LoFranco returned to score Bridgeport's lone goal in the third minute of the game. The senior captain beat the keeper to a beautiful through ball delivered by Tatianna Lizarraga and hammered it into the back of the net.
LoFranco's 14th career tally lifted UB to an early lead that was answered in the 50th minute when Sophia Ridolfo tied things up for the home squad.
After 90 minutes wasn't enough to have a victor, Georgian Court would score the game winner in the 10th minute of overtime. A penalty kick from Chelsea Lavezzo served as the final play of the Purple Knights' season.
UB's offense featured five shots on goal—four of which were turned away by GCU goalkeeper Emma Bennett.
