BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport's women's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday courtesy of a 2-1 loss to Wilmington. The defeat puts the Purple Knights' record at 6-7-3 this season (5-4, CACC).
With the game tied, 1-1, the Wildcats put in their game-winner with just 4:12 remaining in the contest. Wilmington had originally held a 1-0 lead after scoring the game's first goal in the 17th minute.
After conceding the opening tally, Bridgeport evened things up in the 66th minute. Kristi Jazdzewski fired in her second goal of the season off an assist from Melike Dincel.
Dincel's corner kick was deflected by Wilmington goalkeeper Mio Nakajima and eventually retrieved by Jazdzewski, who turned and launched a shot over Nakajima's head from about 20 yards out.
Statistically, the Purple Knights put together advantages of 5-1 in corner kicks and 8-4 in shots-on-goal. Wilmington's two keepers combined to make seven saves in the game.
