PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Facing what should be one of their toughest tests of the season, the University of Bridgeport's women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest at unbeaten Jefferson (7-0, 4-0 CACC) on Saturday. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 2-3-2 this season (1-2, CACC).
In a tough battle on the road, Bridgeport's effort was highlighted by scoring the first goal of any team against the Rams this season. Prior to today's contest, Jefferson had defeated its previous six opponents by a 20-0 margin.
UB's breakthrough came in the 61st minute. It was a successful penalty kick from senior Angelina LoFranco that tied the game up at 1-1.
LoFranco is now leading the Purple Knights in points (8) this season off three goals and two assists.
Jefferson went up 1-0 in the 29th minute before a tally in the 67th minute served as the eventual game winner.
Statistically, it was a very even matchup between UB and the Rams. Bridgeport earned a 6-4 edge in corner kicks while Jefferson tallied a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
The Purple Knights launched 13 total shots in the game, compared to just six for Jefferson.
