BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After scoring six times in a win over the weekend, the University of Bridgeport's women's soccer team continued the positive momentum with a 3-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The home triumph pushes the Purple Knights' record to an even 2-2-2 this season.
It was a very impressive effort for UB as they have now won two straight home games by a combined score of 9-2.
Leigh-Ann Ramsay put the Purple Knights on the board with a firecracker of a goal. The senior took a nice dish from Lily Rodriguez on the right side of the box and fired the ball into the top right-corner of the net.
UB added to its lead in the second half. Freshman Luiza Macedo, who is now UB's top goal-scorer (3) this season, found the back of the net in the 57th minute. The Brazil native put the finishing touches on a nice cross from Melike Dincel that was flicked sideways by Ramsay.
After STAC trimmed the lead in the 73rd minute, Bridgeport added an insurance tally about 10 minutes later, and it was another sensational strike.
Angelina LoFranco hammered a 25-yard shot over the outstretched hands of STAC's goalkeeper Catalena Robson. LoFranco now has 12 career goals and 18 career assists at UB.
Junior Chloe Oudin was credited with the assist on LoFranco's goal as as she connected the pass to LoFranco outside the STAC box.
Defensively, the Purple and White only allowed six shots on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Angelina Griva posted her second win of the year following a five-save performance.
