Men’s Wrestling Earns Two 5th-Place Finishes, 16 Wins at Roger Williams Invitational
Five different Purple Knights picked up multiple victories on Saturday.
BRISTOL, R.I. - Three top-six finishes and 16 total wins highlighted a solid outing for the University of Bridgeport's men's wrestling team on Saturday at the Roger Williams Invitational.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
The Purple Knights followed up their 17 individual victories at last week's East Stroudsburg Open with 16 more wins on Saturday. UB's efforts were highlighted by a pair of fifth-place finishes from Jaiden Hernandez (141 lbs) and Matthew Ryan (165 lbs).
Both Hernandez and Ryan went 4-2 on the day to lead the Purple Knights. Ryan capped his run with a 7-4 decision over fourth-seeded Matthew Gish of Roger Williams to secure his fifth-place finish, while Hernandez also had a victory over a seeded opponent during his bracket run.
Kamran Dickson, Daniel Mahoney, and Achilles Clarke each added multiple wins to UB's total, with Clarke earning a sixth-place finish at heavyweight (285 lbs).
Like Ryan and Hernandez, Clarke also recorded a win over a seeded foe as the Purple Knights continue to build momentum early in the season.
