Men’s Wrestling Launches New Era with Strong Showing at East Stroudsburg Open
Purple Knights total 17 wins to place 11th out of 49 programs.
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The University of Bridgeport men's wrestling team opened its 2025-26 season at the East Stroudsburg Open on Sunday, highlighted by 17 total wins and a runner-up individual finish. The Purple Knights placed 11th as a team out of 49 programs.
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
UB's busy Sunday was highlighted by 17 total individual wins across six different weight classes.
Freshman Jaiden Hernandez led the way with a runner-up finish at 141 lbs, winning four consecutive matches before falling to top-seeded Chad Ozias (Pitt-Johnstown) in the championship.
Hernandez nabbed UB's top triumph in terms of seeding when he took down third-seeded Andrew Roman in the first round by technical fall.
Another freshman, Daniel Mahoney, made history by recording the program's first win of the new era of UB men's wrestling by fall at 141 lbs.
Christopher Jeudy, Achilles Clarke, Gatlin Krepela, and Matthew Ryan all joined Hernandez with multiple victories, with Jeudy standing out with an impressive four pins at 285 lbs.
