ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Facing their toughest foe to date this season, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team suffered a 22-2 loss at 24th-ranked Dominican on Wednesday. The road defeat puts the Purple Knights' record at 5-7 overall this season and 2-3 in the CACC.
An exciting milestone and accomplishment highlighted UB's road trip on Wednesday.
Senior goalkeeper Jackie Mellia broke the program's all-time saves record courtesy of her 518th career stop. She finished with 11 saves against the nationally ranked Chargers.
Mellia, who has started every single game during her UB tenure, boasts a career average of 9.3 saves per contest. She has reached double-digit stops in 31 games during her time in Bridgeport.
Cheyanne Gangel had previously held the Purple Knights' career saves record. She piled up 517 stops from 2017-2020.
UB's offense against Dominican was supplied by Tara Dimaio who scored both of Bridgeport's goals. Elizabeth Pitts earned an assist on one of those tallies.
Dimaio, who also added a team-high four draw controls, is now the Purple Knights' top goal-scorer this season with 37.
Pitts, meanwhile, leads Bridgeport with 21 assists this season—16 of which have come in the last five games.
