Staruk of Gymnastics Earns Spot at NCAA Regional in Lexington
UB's first NCAA regional qualifier since 2022 (Kathryn Doran).
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - For the first time since 2022, the University of Bridgeport's gymnastics team will be represented at the NCAA Regionals, as junior Nova Staruk secured a berth in the Lexington Regional set for April 2-5. She will compete on vault against top qualifiers from across all NCAA divisions.
Named the Gymnastics East Conference Specialist of the Year at Saturday's championship meet, Staruk earned her spot in Lexington after posting one of the top-16 National Qualifying Scores (NQS) among event specialists not competing on qualifying teams.
She matched the top vault score at GECs with a 9.850, elevating her season NQS to an impressive 9.835. Staruk has now reached a mark of 9.850 four times this year and has scored at least a 9.800 in seven meets.
Further adding to her standout season, Staruk previously garnered All-GEC First Team honors on vault and was a two-time GEC Specialist of the Week during the regular season.
Staruk becomes the first UB gymnast to qualify for the NCAA Regionals since Kathryn Doran earned a spot on bars in 2022.
