Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at GEC Championships; Kenney and Staruk Capture Conference Titles
Kenney won the all-around while Staruk tied for first on vault and was named GEC Specialist of the Year.

ITHACA, N.Y. – Kicking off their 2026 postseason slate, the University of Bridgeport's gymnastics team placed sixth at the Gymnastics East Conference Championships on Saturday at Cornell, finishing with a team score of 192.475.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Purple Knights' 2026 GECs was highlighted by a pair of conference champions in senior Abby Kenney and junior Nova Staruk.
Kenney headlined the effort by capturing the all-around title with a winning score of 38.975, continuing her dominant season for the Purple Knights.
Kenney contributed top finishes across multiple events, tying for fourth on bars with a 9.775, placing sixth on floor with a 9.850, and tying for ninth on vault with a 9.700.
Staruk matched Kenney's championship performance with a title of her own, tying for first on vault with a 9.850 to equal her season-high mark.
Following the meet, she was honored as the GEC Specialist of the Year, capping a stellar conference campaign that includes an impressive 9.835 NQS on vault.
Samantha Nokes added to Bridgeport's success with a strong showing on bars, tying for sixth with a 9.750.
Additional top-20 finishes came from Staruk on floor (9.750), Emily Hernandez on bars (9.700), and Rian Thompkins on beam (9.675), rounding out a well-balanced performance for the Purple Knights on the conference stage.
