Bio

Lorraine Galow ('11, '13) recently completed her fourth season as the head coach of Bridgeport Gymnastics in 2024-25. A 2011 and 2013 graduate of UB, Galow served as long-time assistant at her alma mater from 2011-12 and from 2014-2020 and was the program's interim coach during the fall of 2020. She also has assistant coaching experience at Yale University.

Galow has guided the University of Bridgeport gymnastics program to significant growth and success during her tenure as head coach. Under her leadership, the Purple Knights have steadily improved over the past four years, highlighted by a program-best third-place finish at the 2025 GEC Championships and victories over Division I opponents William & Mary, Cornell, and Brown. That season, UB posted an NQS of 193.325—nearly five points higher than its 2022 mark—and produced five All-Americans, including WCGA Division II Co-Gymnast of the Year, Abby Kenney.

The Purple Knights also reached a high point in 2024 when they recorded a team score of 195.025 during a home tri-meet, the program’s best score since 2019.

Academics remain a central part of Galow’s philosophy, with the entire roster honored as GEC Scholar-Athletes in 2025 and 25 student-athletes earning WCGA Scholastic All-America recognition. UB posted team GPAs of 3.61 in 2023-24 and 3.67 in 2024-2025.

A standout in her own right, Galow is one of the most decorated student-athletes in UB history and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. Her career included honors such as the 2013 ECC John Smillie Jr. Award, the 2013 USAG Mari-Rae Soper Spirit of the Sport Award, and three NCAA Division I Regional qualifications. She was also a two-time ECAC Gymnast of the Year (2009, 2010), a three-time USAG Scholar-Athlete, and a five-time USAG National Team Champion.

A former fifth-grade teacher, Galow holds two degrees from UB, a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Education.
