Gymnastics Tabbed Seventh In GEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll
Bridgeport was picked seventh overall ahead of their third year in the GEC.
West Chester, Pa. – The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team was voted to seventh place in the 2024 Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) Preseason Coaches' poll ahead of the coming season. Reigning champions Penn lead the poll with 63 points, including seven first place votes. Brown received 46 points in second and Yale garnered 44 points, with one first place vote for third place. The top six places are identical with last year's poll and the only change is UB swapping places from eighth to seventh over William and Mary.
The Purple Knights ended last year's GEC season with a seventh-place finish in the GEC Championship, posting a team score of 192.800. Their best performance of the year came at Southern Connecticut State when they posted a season-high team tally of 194.100.
Bridgeport had five members of the 2023 squad listed as All-GEC, those being now alumnae Nicole Javinett and Joanna Chambers along with returners Kieran Ross (Sr., Reno, Nev.), Lola Sepulveda (So., Woodbridge, Va.) and Olivia Imbarlina (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.).
All-Around standout Lola Sepulveda additionally earned Second Team NCAA Div. II All-American honors from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
Joanna Chambers showcased the Student-Athlete ideals and was named to Second Team National College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Division II Women's At-Large Academic All-America Team. In addition to Chambers, 15 more members of the 2023 team were named to the Gymnastics East Conference Scholar-Athlete List for maintaining a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
