Brianna Comport And Kelsey Campbell Earn Weekly Corvais ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards
Duo Helps UB Win Season-Opening Quad Meet At Southern Connecticut State
Danbury. Conn.-Two University of Bridgeport women's gymnasts have earned weekly Corvais ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards for their outstanding performances in the Purple Knights' 2105 season-opening, quad meet at Southern Connecticut State on Saturday. Sophomore Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was named ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Specialist of the Week, and freshman Kelsey Campbell (Las Vegas, Nev.) received the weekly Rookie of the Week Award.
Comport took first place on the balance beam on Saturday with a score of 9.825.
Campbell placed fourth in Saturday's all-around competition with a total of 37.275 points. Kelsey took fourth on the bars with a score of 9.750, and she scored 9.300 in the floor exercise, 9.200 on the vault and 9.025 on the balance beam.
Bridgeport posted a team score of 192.000 to win Saturday's meet over Brown, Southern Connecticut and Rhode Island College. That 192.000 is the highest total a UB team has ever scored in a season opening event.
This week, the UB women's gymnastics team is back in action at Brown University for a quad meet on Saturday, January 24.
