UB Gymnastics Duo Takes Weekly ECAC Awards
Monica Mesalles Sallares And Lissette La Fex Honored For Their Strong Performances At Last Saturday's Towson Quad Meet
Centerville, Mass.-Two members of the University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team have earned weekly ECAC Awards for their outstanding performances at the Purple Knights Quad Meet victory at Towson University last Saturday afternoon. Senior Monica Mesalles Sallares (Barcelona, Spain) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Specialist of the Week, and junior Lissette La Fex (Diamond Barr, Calif.) earned the ECAC Division II Coaches Award for the week.
Mesalles Sallares was outstanding last Saturday in a Quad Meet hosted by Towson University as she led the Purple Knights to a season-high team total of 194.600 topping the host school plus Lindenwood and Ursinus. Monica took first place in the floor exercise with a score of 9.925 and was second on the vault at 9.825. So far this year, she is the third ranked individual gymnast in all divisions of NCAA Gymnastics (1, II, III) in the floor exercise.
La Fex continues to be one of the team leaders for the undefeated University of Bridgeport Purple Knights so far in 2013 as she took first place on the bars (9.775) and was solid in the beam (9.600) and the vault (9.650) in UB's victory last Saturday.
This Saturday, February 2, the Bridgeport gymnastics team is in action at Temple University where they will face the host Owls along with West Chester and Ursinus. Action gets underway in Philadelphia at 1:00 p.m.
