Women's Basketball Scores Season High in Decisive Win at Wilmington
Purple Knights improve their record to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in the CACC.
NEWARK, Del. – The University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season on Saturday in a wire-to-wire victory at Wilmington, jumping out to a commanding 16-4 lead and never looking back. UB's 74-47 road triumph pushes the Purple Knights' record to 8-7 overall and 6-5 in the CACC.
After going up 16-4 to open the game, UB pushed its advantage throughout the afternoon en route to turning in a season-high 74 points.
The Purple Knights were especially sharp from long range, knocking down a season-best 12 three-pointers, and continued their strong defensive form by holding an opponent under 50 points for the fourth time this season.
Sophomore Savannah Prescott spearheaded the offensive effort with a career-high 24 points while also recording her second straight double-double and third of the year.
Prescott supplemented her scoring with 10 rebounds and eight assists as she neared a triple-double for the second straight contest. She has totaled 35 points, 20 rebounds and 15 assists over the last two UB games (both wins).
Niyah Whitten (12 pts.), Nicole Benini (11 pts.) and Jaelyn Choi (10 pts.) also reached double figures to give UB four players scoring in double digits.
Whitten added seven rebounds and a team-best two blocks while Benini nabbed six boards and dished out two assists.
Zahkiyyah Frazier added a strong all-around performance with seven points and a team-second nine rebounds to help control the glass as the Purple Knights cruised to the convincing win.
