BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Facing one of the top teams in the east region so far this season, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team picked up a 60-44 win over Felician (12-4, 7-2 CACC) on Tuesday night inside Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights improve their record to 7-7 overall, including a 5-5 mark in the CACC.
It was a breakout game from Isabella Edwards that fueled UB to its best win to date. The junior scored a team-high and career-high 18 points off the bench on 7-of-10 shooting. She notched 11 of UB's 13 points in the opening quarter.
Edwards also knocked in one of the big shots of the night in the fourth quarter. She buried her third three-pointer of the game to put UB ahead 50-40 with 4:00 remaining.
Sophomore Savannah Prescott joined Edwards in double figures with 11 points. Scoring was just part of the story for Prescott though as she also finished with 10 rebounds and a career-high eight assists.
Prescott, who has now notched double-figure points in nine contests, leads the Purple Knights at 10.5 points per game this season.
Niyah Whitten and Zahkiyyah Frazier also aided the UB offense with eight points apiece and a combined 14 rebounds.
The Purple Knights' defense was sensational throughout as they limited Felician to their second-lowest scoring output of the season.
UB held the Golden Falcons to just four points in the second quarter, which led to a 26-15 halftime lead.
Felician entered the night averaging nearly 69 points per contest.
Alycia Secchiaroli and Nicole Benini played a massive part in the defensive effort as they each swatted away a pair of shots. Benini chipped in seven boards as well.
As a team, the Purple Knights finished with a 46-31 advantage on the glass. Bridgeport's bench also put together a 23-4 edge on Felician's bench.
