Women's Basketball Suffers Home Loss to Holy Family
Purple Knights' record moves to 6-7 this season (4-5, CACC).
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of nine straight conference games, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team endured a 54-36 loss to Holy Family (13-3, 8-0 CACC) on Saturday afternoon. The defeat shifts the Purple Knights' overall record to 6-7, including a mark of 4-5 in the CACC.
It was a tough first half for the Purple Knights (HFU led 29-13) that ultimately proved too much to overcome against the defending CACC champions. UB's defense kept the Purple Knights in the game as they held Holy Family to their second-lowest point total of the year.
Sophomore Zahkiyyah Frazier anchored UB with her third double-double of the year, finishing with 13 points and a game-high 17 rebounds, which marked her second-highest total on the glass this season.
With the performance, Frazier now ranks third in the CACC in rebounds per game at 9.5.
Alycia Secchiaroli provided solid support in her third start of the season, ranking second on the team in rebounding (7) while adding five points.
Jaelyn Choi helped direct the offense and led Bridgeport with a season-high five assists, while also knocking down two of the Purple Knights' five three-pointers on the afternoon.
Defensively, Laia Albas sparked the bench with a team-high three steals while Savannah Prescott and Niyah Whitten also recorded multiple takeaways to help keep the contest within reach.
Prescott is currently ranked eighth in the CACC in steals per contest (2.5) this season.
